Offer

We offer guided tours to contemporary architecture in Salzburg.

Some suggestions for tours:

Salzburg City
Redevelopment and adaptation of existing buildings
Lehen lives

In the Countryside
Pioneering in Pongau
The Gastein Valley
Wood and Concrete

It is proposed to integrate publicly accessible buildings in the tour. As a general rule many buildings cannot be viewed from the inside. However, where particular interest prevails, every attempt will be undertaken to make this possible.

It is our pleasure, in collaboration with our partners in Vienna, architectural tours vienna, in Graz, architektouren–graz, and in Munich, guiding architects munich, to offer you an insight into contemporary architecture in Austria and in Southern Germany.

Tours in the City of Salzburg

Redevelopment and adaptation of existing buildings

A walk through the historic center of Salzburg with examples of contemporary architecture visiting, for instance, the UNIPARK Nonntal (Culture and Humanities Faculty, Storch Ehlers Partner Architects 2011) or the University Mozarteum (Architect, Robert Rechenauer, 2006).

Lehen lives

A walking tour of one of Salzburg’s most densely built-up areas with selected examples of social housing in recent decades: from the Hans-Sachs-Hof (Diener & Diener, 1989) as a model project at the beginning of the architectural reforms to the Neue Mitte Lehen (HALLE 1, 2009), the ensemble Parklife (Touzimsky Herold Architektur with Tungsten Mehlem, 2012) and the long-term project of the redevelopment of the former Stadtwerke area (various architects).

Tours in the Countryside of Salzburg

Pioneering in Pongau

A trip to the current architectural buildings designed by Tom Lechner, who lives and works in the inner-alpine district, having made major contributions to breaking the ground for contemporary architecture in rural areas. The book; “LP architecture buildings and projects / Buildings and Projects 2008-2014”, provides an overview of his work, for example, the office building Maschinenring in St. Johann Austria (2012).

The Gastein Valley

Architects from Vienna and Munich created the seemingly displaced metropolitan "skyscraper village in the mountains" in the alpine valley during the last third of the 19th century. Architect Gerhard Garstenauer’s Felsenbad (rock bathing pool) (1968) and his convention center, opened in 1974, demonstrate the former pioneering spirit. A recent example of noteworthy quality is the School of Tourism in Bad Hofgastein (Fasch & Fuchs, 2010).

Wood and Concrete

During the last decades Austrian architects developed an international reputation in the field of integrating modern architecture in rural areas of the mountains. Contemporary buildings especially use the traditional material wood and modern concrete to meet the genius loci. The trip into mountains and valleys of the Alps shows different typologies as residential and retirement homes, colleges and schools, leisure and office buildings as well as hotels.
